About Me:

Randy and I have seven children ages 2-17, so we are currently experiencing parenting at all levels. We've spent the past several years trying to keep a family budget, hoping things would get better someday when a better job came along. It finally dawned on us that we need to make this budget work with room to actually get ahead for once. We slashed our housing and gas costs almost in half by moving into a small apartment very close to Randy's job. He recently finished his PhD, and we learned that most of his student debt will be forgiven if he continues to work in public schools for the next 10 years. So 10 years from now in 2021, Laura will probably be married, all of our boys should be home from missions, and we'll be looking at three more daughters and their future weddings. More than anything, we just want to be able to help our kids become established and to have a home for them to all come home to. So we are taking 2.5 years to learn to do without and become financially free. We've talked about this to all of the kids, and they are all on board.
--Now that Randy has finished his schooling, he continues his job as a principal for two urban night high schools. He helps me in his free time to feed the kids, keep up on laundry, organize everything for nine people now living in very tight quarters, help the kids develop their goals and life visions, and teach them the gospel. He still studies the scriptures and books on philosophy and government as much as possible.
--Our oldest daughter Laura is a senior at an arts magnet, playing piano and French horn. Students at her school constantly remind her how much she looks like the now popular singer Adele. Laura playes piano by ear and also sings. She is a highly sought-after babysitter, having a lot of knowledge from helping me raise her six brothers and sisters. She is also an excellent writer and is an exemplary Young Woman in the church. She will be attending college locally for two years and is hoping to become a speech pathologist.
--Randy jr. is now taller than me and is working hard at his studies and athletics. He recently had knee surgery and wants to play football again next year. He sets the standard for his two younger brothers. He and Ian had a lawn mowing business over the past two summers and learned to be hard workers. He is an Eagle Scout. I can often find him reading his scriptures, writing in his journal, exercising, studying his schoolwork, or rallying the kids to help clean the house--all without me ever having to ask.
--Ian is currently homeschooling through his middle school years. He is very compassionate, always looking to see what he can do to help the family with things like a fresh glass of water or a blanket when it's cold. He takes care of Holly when I need help. He remembers facts and is a reader like his dad. He has also developed his dad's sense of humor. He enjoys "Google Earth," flying in their flight simulator and discovering our world. He likes to use scrap wood to make toy guns. He is capable of doing hard work--mowing lawns and building fences, etc.
--AJ is attending public school as a 5th grader. He is very articulate with his handwriting and drawing. He is also a good writer and takes his homework seriously. He is my only child that has hyper spells and can literally bounce off the walls. He loves to snuggle up to his dad whenever they watch tv together. He also learned to mow lawns whenever Ian needed a replacement, so I think he is capable of working very hard for an 11 year old. AJ likes small things like lego people and tiny trinkets and such. He seems to collect them somehow, and is usually carrying one around with him.
--Heidi is also attending school with AJ as a 3rd grader. She is a good student, too, trying hard to do her very best at everything. She is a good oldest sister to her two younger sisters, and she helps me to take care of them. She and daddy are very close, as he took her under his wing when Hannah was born. Heidi writes him love letter after love letter. She also sings and draws very well.
--Hannah is very delicate and sensitive, and was struggling and becoming deeply depressed after our move, so we decided to homeschool her for awhile. She has really thrived being close to her mamma lately. She did attend kindergarten and was the entertainer of the class. She had lots of friends and kept everyone laughing much to the teacher's dismay. She really is hilarious with her daddy's wit. She also gives amazing compliments to people! We thought she was going to be the baby of the family, so even though we had Holly when she was four years old, we all still cherish her as our baby, too.
--Holly at age two is as cute as she can possibly be--with reddish blond hair and spiral baby curls at her neck. She has huge bright blue eyes and chubby rosy cheeks. She is adored by everyone, and so she has become bossy and demanding, but we are trying to break her of this and her tantrums and teach her to ask nicely and quietly. She loves to dance to techno music, sing along to Adele's "Someone Like You," and "I am a Child of God," "Popcorn Popping," "Wheels on the Bus," "ABCD's" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star." She carries her dolly wherever she goes and wakes up crying if she loses her "baby" in her bed. She does not like to wear pants, but she wants to wear her shiny black mary jane heels at all times.
--My hobby is writing and compiling Life History and Blog books. Since I was pregnant with Holly in 2009, I have worked on three books with extended family members. I love each of my family members deeply, and I want to record their legacies before they pass away. I also want to remember the beautiful things about our own family life. I am hoping to learn photography soon, so that I am better able to record our history. If I ever go back to school, it will be to study technical writing.
--I am so thankful for my testimony of Jesus Christ and His church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I love the gospel principles and teachings that have blessed my life beyond words.
